It’s Pride Week!

Between hanging out with friends, strolling through Richmond and its many shops, and the 6th Annual Black Expo, I had such a blast last month! It was so nice catching up with my friends, meeting creatives, and indulging in all that Richmond has to offer. It just made me feel more in tune with my community. So, now that September is here, I’d like to keep that same energy.
Instead of going on the hunt for upcoming LGBTQ events, they came to me in my inbox. Thanks, OutRVA! In the email, I saw that PrideFest is September 12th from 12-8 p.m., which is perfect for me. It’s on a Saturday; I don’t have a damn thing planned, and there’s gonna be so much shit I can buy there! Not sure which vendors or food trucks will be there, but that’s okay. I’m still going. I have to work the very next day, but I don’t give a damn. It’s not like I’ll be out all night…or will I?
Also, Pride Week started on the 5th. There are so many other things going on this week. Patio parties, rooftop parties, after dark parties, and more! I honestly don’t think I’ll attend any other events besides PrideFest, but if I decide I want to celebrate even more, I can. So, to anyone attending multiple events: have fun and stay safe! I have to say, I’m really proud of myself for putting myself out there and talking to people. In the last few months, I haven’t wanted to do anything. Writing, blogging, podcasting—anything! But that’s no way to live life. Even if it is hard, I still have to keep going just like everyone else. It’ll just require me to move a little differently, is all, and require some motivation. I’ve certainly been getting plenty of motivation from friends, community members, and readers like you. So, thank you so much! It means a lot! It really keeps me going.
Lastly, I know that Pride Week gives us an opportunity to let our queer flag fly and have fun, but we can do that any time, honestly. Because guess what?! We’re queer every day of the week. It’s who we are, and who we’ll always be. So, even if you’re too busy this week to do any celebrating, it’s alright! Just know you can do it any other time because staying true to yourself and loving who you love out loud when the world may tell you otherwise is something to celebrate, quite honestly, every day. That’s strength, courage, and a whole lot of pride.
